In a culture that idolizes the selfie, I find more meaning in the spur-of-the-moment expressions that don’t fall under the typical candid profile picture. My paintings are an exploration of moments, emotions, and individuality. I love capturing lively and sometimes awkward facial expressions. As my family and friends say I am drawn to the "odd" faces. My paintings emphasize how not only people but emotions and moments can be so transitory and complex. By dramatically cropping in on the subjects face, I cut out most of, if not all, of it’s context and surroundings. Leaving it up to the viewer’s interpretation of the moment or emotion being expressed.
